Working from home has become the norm for many over the past couple of weeks but it is something that can be difficult to do, especially if it’s not something you are used to. Home life brings distractions, especially when the rest of the family are in the house.
We have put together a list of top tips to help you create a productive home office environment without having to spend a penny.
1. The Set Up
If possible, try and find a quiet spot in the house with minimal traffic. Having a window in the room and a couple of plants will help the space feel more relaxed. It might not work for everyone, but setting up your office in an area where you don’t normally sit, will help to separate home life from work life.
2. Lighting
Make sure your office is well lit. Now the evenings are lighter, the natural light is an added bonus. Nobody likes having to strain their eyes when staring at their computer screen.
3. Find the Perfect Playlist
It has been said that certain types of music help to enhance productivity and creativity. Spotify gives you access to a library of ‘Office’ playlists but if you don’t have access to this then have some fun creating your own personalised home office playlist.
4. Remove Yourself
Go and stretch your legs for 5 minutes, nip to the kitchen and make yourself a cup of coffee or sit in the garden with a book. Give your brain time to regroup and this will help to increase your attention, productivity and quality of your work.
5. Dress to Impress
Okay, so you don’t need to put on your ball gown or suit but getting up in the morning and changing out of your pyjamas will help to make you feel more productive. It also means you’ll be prepared for any impromptu video meetings you have to take!
