According to a study conducted by Direct Line’s Select Premier Insurance, the demand for swimming pools has increased by 17% overall according to high end estate agents. People purchasing prime property in the UK are after high quality sport and home leisure facilities, with a swimming pool ranking as the top most wanted.
In joint second place, tennis courts and home gyms are at 9%, home spa was next at 8%, 5% for home cinema, 4% for stables, and 3% for a luxury kitchen.
The down side includes cost implications of up keep and maintenance of a swimming pool, which could put off some prospective buyers as well as the estimated 15% additional cost on top of the purchase price. However, some 17% surveyed said that sporting and home leisure facilities do not add to the overall price, but increases a property’s saleability and attractiveness to potential buyers.
